a quick question about the 10k mod

i was just wondering if having a smaller resistor(1k) or a bigger resistor(18k) would be better just wondering

96, I haven't tried to use a higher value resistor but I have tried lower. I tried a 5.6K just to see what would happen. It idled higher of course, First gear rocked, second gear rocked harder, third gear JAM!!, fourth gear is where someone pull the plug on the rock. and I never got to fifth. In first through third it doubled the 10K, but for some reason it fell on it's face in fourth. I'm not a technical or electrical wizard so I couldn't tell you why. I just went back to the 10K. Hope that helps.

Bad ***, the 10K mod is the cheapest coolest mod you can do if your low on duckets. (out of cash) You loop a 1/2 watt 10K ohm resister between the gray and red wire and the blue and green wire on the high pressure oil pump harness or plug to the right of the fuel filter. 99 cents for a pack of five from Radio shack. Do some searches for it. It's extremly easy. I have mine on a Mad Max switch on my shifter for added entertainment.

this will tell you what it does, how it does it, how to do it, and resistance options. http://65.121.190.196/mods/indexframe.html

Dont go below 3.9k. The trucks I have seen go lower than that dont like it at all!

The "adjustable" versions I have seen use a 0 to 10k potentiometer, with a 3.9, or 4.2k resistor soldered to the middle post. that effectively gives you 3.9 to 13.9 adjustablilty.

As for your truck falling on its face, it may have to do with the High Pressure Oil Pump and Injector Pressure Regulator just running out of steam. Your putting a high demand on those parts to increase the injector pressure.

On the dyno, I have seen some trucks show a LOSS of top end HP due to the 10k style mods. However there are some new TWIN HPOPs, and other upgraded High pressure parts showing up on the market now, and that could allow for the higher injector pressures on the top end.

10k mod is where the Edge EZ, SP Diesel Stage-1, and BlackCloud Diesel 18k all originated from. You can do it yourself, or pay them for the same thing.

I have a 5.6k wired into a salvaged microswitch that I attached to the shift handle. Whenever I need a little extra boost like passing a slowpoke I floor it and hit the switch for a few seconds. With the switch released then it goes back to stock, with the nice smooth idle.

You might be happier with the Clamp mod, especially if you try the 10k and end up with a surging idle as I did. The clamp mod is, IMHO, fantastic.

Yes I agree, but the Clamp makes some pretty high EGT's and I don't have guages or big exhaust. My setup is about as far as I am willing to go until then.
A side note: Eckart had a 60 HP chip that was useless to him and mailed it to me. I am eagerly waiting for it to arrive, but again, am afraid to run it until I properly equip the truck.

Yea, I agree with you kwik, Although I straight piped my truck and put a 6637 air filter on it, the 10K is all the farther I'm gonna go till I get some guages.
