which coolant???

Hey guys, I'm in need of some expert advice. I need to change the coolant in my PSD. Does anyone know if regular Prestone or on of the other coolants out there can be used?? I asked the parts guy at the dealership and he said it comes from the samr place, as long as you put in the additive it would be alright. I tow a 32' fiver and I really don't want to use the wrong stuff. I have tried looking for heavy duty stuff but no one around here sells it.
any advice? (not interested in evens either)

Not sure what year your truck is, but keep the coolant color the same as what you have now. You can't mix green and yellow coolants, and I assume that it is improper to mix other colors with the green or yellow as well. I am most familiar with the green, so my advice pertains to that color coolant. You need to get "low-silicate" coolant. I bought the Zerex in the white jug. It says "low-silicate" right on the front. There are several other brands that will qualify. There is a Ford standard, but I can't remember what it is, exactly. Anywho, use of green coolant means that the additive is also required. On a complete drain, you'll need to add 2 bottles (pints?) to treat a 2000 model or similar application (8 gallons). I am not familiar with how much coolant other year trucks require. Another thing is you need to dillute the antifreeze with distilled water and not just plain tap water. Too many minerals and stuff in tap water, I guess. Wal-Mart sells distilled water for about $0.50 to $0.60 per gallon. BTW, if you already have the yellow (gold) coolant, then additive is not required. Hope this helps.........

One product that I used to control overheating on my 91 F-250 460 was Redline Water Wetter. It basically broke the surface tension on the water and allowed the coolant to make better contact with the surfaces inside the engine and made the coolant much more efficient at carrying away extra heat. It transformed a truck that couldn't tow a 4500lb trailer up the pass without having the guage go all the way up to the top of normal to having the guage only rise a notches worth. If the engine was really working the guage would go up only a half notch and then the radiator fan would lock up and howl like crazy. But never would the guage rise again. It is a very effective product.
