my grandfather has a 2004 5.4L and the truck idles really rough. in park, neutral, and in drive when you are stoped. do not really notice any thing while driving though. i was thinking it might be our old buddy the IAC but not sure. is anyone having any probs with this?? the truck has almost 4,000 miles on it.
mine is doing the same thing 5,000 miles on it. i notice it mostly when stopped at a light. feels like the transmission is in a battle with the engine to keep going, i feel the vibration in the truck. already had the throttle position sensor replaced and it idles at 6-650.
I think there might be an issue with some of the harmonic balancers on these vehicles. You might want to do a search for that, since I think that might be the issue here.
i noticed the smae thing when I bought my truck. it almost feels like its going to stall on me at a light.
but now, with 11000 miles on it, it really doesn't do that anymore. I don't know why, but it seems to be running more normally now.
all modular engins do not do it because i have a 2002 with a 4.6 and a 1997 with a 5.4 in it and neither one of them do it and have never done it since day one when they were new from the dealership.
Sorry for this.
My truck is blowing blue smoke, has detonation, leaks oil, and smells like lemons...
ALL the new fords do this!, it's normal. Ahhhhh NO.
MK
all new fords do not do this, neither my 2002 or my 1997, i know several people and close friends that have 2004 5.4L and they have not had this problem with a rough idle and i ahev also rode in othe 2004'. they all do not have this problem. i eat, sleep, breath and live for ford trucks and they do not all have this. if they all had this dont you think there would be more people talking about this.
I'm with you on that, DeckedoutF150, vibrate???, only if there's something amiss, i even drive mine like no tomorrow.and its smooth as butter., now when something goes wrong it will vib shake or smoke ....but alll engines do this when its got a bad part....all engines will....now back to the problem at hand .....has it been in a heavy rain? any codes ...with it being that new of a truck it could have the harmonic balancer issue that Rich was talking about.....
nick it must be nice to get drive an 04...... .....

they are very very nice trucks and the ride of it is incredable and the interior is very nice and quiet. its not been in any heavy rain and its not shooting any codes that i know of. its not a vibration at all it just feels like it may stall on ya, like the engin is missing. i was talking to another guy and he said that they are reprogramming them and that is working.
its really weird cause like i said my 2 trucks are not doing it, 1997 had 78,000 and 2002 has 30,482 and they run really smooth, and other people i know with 2004 5.4L are not having the problem. when you are driving there is no feel of loss of power and the roughness is gone
