i was out mudding last night w a whole bunch of friends ( 15 trucks ) in a friends field and i was havin fun and then all of the sudden i hear this loud snap sound and my 4wd stops working. i get on the little road and try to disengage my 4wd and it wouldnt do it. and my 4wd still doenst work, i had to unplug the fuse to get to turn the 4wd light off. did i break something back ( please i hope not ) or is it fairly easy to fix
Hey Quack!
You'll need to figure out if the 4wd is still engaged. See if the front shaft still turns in 4wd with the hubs unlocked.
AL.
Double check the blinker fluid first.
Not trying to alarm you, but that kind of noise and the effect that it had (no more 4WD engagement) could mean that something just snapped or broke. On the list of things to consider is a blown front diff or transfer case.
4wd: just a curiosity, I'm new to these rangers and this kind of front end lock up. but what is a manual hub, electric 4wd? I thought it was one or the other. or did you just replace the original hubs with conversions, so you still have to punch the button, and lock it in. Yea, thats it. How much do those conversions cost? I think I want one. Are the auto hubs not worth a crap?
oh crap, if i did that im definetly in trouble. does my 4wd have any ujoints? if not oh boy
Pnutman yes you are correct about the manual hubs and yes they are'nt too bad money wise, like 70 80 dollars. very easy to do also, if you need help there are quite a few threads here about it. just do a search.
Racsan could be right...could be the t-case chain. But I would think that if it was, and you had your hubs locked and tried to drive around, it would probably sound extremely bad and you'd probably know it.
