I posted a similar topic a few days ago. On cold mornings my 00 PSD won't start until I've cranked it 4-5 times, each time waiting for the Wait To Start light to go out. While it's cranking lots of white smoke comes out. When it does finally start, the smoke clears up and she runs strong.
I did change the fuel filter yesterday and it started fine today. I thought the filter should last longer than 12000 miles, the last time I changed it. I will say that during that 12000 miles I drove from Alaska to 11 states, though Canada. Could I have just picked up some bad fuel along the way and the filter did its job thus my having to replace it sooner?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Also, I posted a thread earlier today about a leak I'm having where the radiator hose connects to the engine, any advice as to how to replace that gasket without draining all of the antifreeze would be welcome too.
Thanks all.
I have a 99 F250 SPD - The hard starting on cold mornings is probably your
glow plug relay. I just had to change mine. it is easy to install. - but
remember to disconnect the battery. Part is about $100.00. - As for the fuel filter - Ford suggest you replace it every 15,000 miles - I think you are a little behind. I change mine every 20,000 and have had good luck.
Help! I have a 2000 f-250 7.3 she has 105,000 mi, and has started to put out white/ smoke in the mornings, if I use the block heater she will just give a puff, if I don’t its like Hiroshima. I had a check engine light come on recently and had the glow plugs replaced along with the wire harness. After smoke started I replaced the glow plug relay, no effect, same problem, local diesel guru dude that I used closed doors. I took truck to another shop and they are telling me that the turbo might be out or some other "thingy", I will be picking up my baby in the morning from those fools but I am back to square one. Possible the "CPS” is gone gunnysack? Someone/ anyone any help would be appreciated
If it runs it's not the CPS. And by what you say not likely the turbo. It sounds like a glow plug problem. If your not capable of doing the tests I would suggest another mechanic.
Ya man I dont think its the turbo either. but like I said I just had glow pugs replaced in july. and they are the double insulated performance plugs, I was reading up and got an Idea that the o-rings on one and maybe all the injectors, might be the prob, but she runs great as soon as she warms up so I am not sure what the " " is the problem.
Fuel filter may need changing at shorter intervals.
My 02 was beginning to sound a little hoarse and generally not as perfect as usual (particularly when drag racing and smoking my rude fellow drivers) I decided to examine the fuel system. I am glad that I did because upon examination I discovered a lot of brown mucky crap all over the filter and in the bowl. This filter had about 9K on it but also traveled to Montana and back. I changed it with a Wix filter and drained the bowl out. Some of the sediment still remained in the bowl however so leaving the drain **** open I flushed it out with diesel and got most of out I think. This has never happened before. The short of the long seems to be change the FF out every 7500 not 15K. I think I've seen some the gurus post that before.
thanks a lot everyone for responding, turns out it was a dead cell in one battery and the same dirty fuel filter. changed it and both batterys and low and behold its running a whole lot better, turbo my butt, beware felllow powerstrokers, there are some would be deisel mechanics out there who see a stroker comeing and think here comes a easy mark. I live here in Albuq, and I dont think it would probably be cool to name the @#$^&(**&. shop on this forum but if any of you are interested in finding out where NOT to take you;re rig for any work here in the duke city I would be glad to let you know.
