1. locate the fuel shut off switch, it should be under your passenger side dash, if I remember correctly (check your owners manual).
2. Start the truck, then take the shut off switch (pull it away from its mounted position) and tap it gently on something realitavely hard. The vehicle should shut off in a few seconds.
3. with a needle nose pliers and a flat head screw driver, gently pull the clips off the filter.
4. reinstall the new filter in the proper direction, and also using the new clips that should be provided.
5. push the reset button on the fuel shut off.
6. turn the ignition on, but wait about 10 seconds to turn it over.
If you have follewed these steps you truck should run great.
Thanks for the complete instructions. The only trouble I may have is with the clips because my fuel filter didn't come with new ones.Is it possible to remove the old ones without breaking them? If not, can you buy the clips seperately?
I don't know if this applies to the '96 model, but in my '98 the inertia (roll-over) switch is hidden behind the right side kick plate. The de-pressurize procedure is to pull the elec. connector and crank the motor for 2 seconds.
The fuel filter is in the left frame rail, (under driver), held in place with spring clips. The stainless clips that hold the lines in place can be opened and removed without damaging them, but the fuel lines require a disconnect tool. Looks like a split donut, you slip it over the line and down into the fitting. A complete set (A/C lines, Fuel Lines, etc) costs about $10.
Again, I don't know if this applies to your year or model truck. I just learned as I went with mine.
Don't forget to plug the switch back in when you're done.
Filters usually do not come with new clips. You have to go to the dealer and buy them. You can use the old ones but you are better off gettting new ones
