ford 9'' drain plug

is there a way too tap a hole for a 5/16 inch drain plug on the ford 9 ''

It's too thin to tap, you will have to weld a backup plate inside the housing.

I drilled a hole just to the side of the ring gear on the bottom back side. Where the rear cover and the lower part of the housing are welded together, on the back of the housing, not the bottom. It took a 1/4 fine thread fastener, because I was drilling thru two piece of steel I didn't use a backing plate. I didn't leak and it took about an hour to drain the pumpkin but I didn't have to reseal anything.

I can't remember exactly, almost 3qts. You should be able to find capacity online somewhere. If I run into it I'll post it here.
