I personally wouldn't bother with Ford's CD player. From what I have heard the 6 disc player is trash and usually in the repair shop. Do yourself a favor and just buy an aftermarket setup.
I agree that you might find one on Ebay. Haven't heard much about problems with them. My stepdad's 98 Explorer has factory 6-disc changer, but not in dash. What kind of problems do they have?

I have an '02 Ranger, and have been experiencing some problems with the 6 disc CD player. I still need to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed, but the problem is intermittent. A CD will be playing, then just stop. If I change CD's or switch to the radio and back to the CD, it will work again. Not sure what the problem is, but when I get back from the dealership (when I get time to get there), I'll let you know what they say and do. I'm hoping they just pull the one that's in it now out and replace the whole unit.
I have an 02 Ranger EDGE with the in-dash Disc changer. I am starting to have problems with it like hanging/jambing during loading/ejecting discs. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having problems.
My brother in law has a in the dash 6 Disc CD Player. Although his truck is a F250 the radio's are still similar. Within the first month of having the truck he had to take it back because the CD player jammed. I believe he has had it fixed twice and the truck is less then a year old.
I would definitely steer clear of the Ford 6-disc changer. As RedBilly stated, I have lost 2 already, both under warranty. I'm out of my bumper to bumper now, so if it goes out again, I'm gonna go with an aftermarket setup.
