I have a 93 Ranger 2wd, 3.0 5spd tranny. Can any tell me what kind of fluid to put in the rear axle? I was reading in the manual to use dexron tranny fluid, is this the same as dexron mercon III? In the power steering pump will any type F tranny fluid work? Any suggestions? Thanks Bob
HEY HOLD UP! Are you talking about what fluid to use in your transmission or your rear axel? Your manual transmission providing it's a mazda would take Mercon/Dextron III HOWEVER your rear axle takes 80W or 90W dope gear oil, don't use the mercon or dextron back there. And yes Mercon and Dextron are the same thing, At least I have always seen it labled as Mercon/Dextron III.
In your owners manual it will give you the type, weight and the specification the fluid must meet. Then get a fluid that meets or exceeds the specification.
