I need to change out my heater core. random drip out of one of the screws that hold the cover on. Rubber floor mat catches it so no damage to carpet yet.
Any tips on how to prevent spilling any coolant when removing from dash board?
After you remove the two heater hoses if you have compressed air available you might try and blow the remaining coolant out of the core. Otherwise try plugging both ends of the tubes to and from the heater core. I would use rubber plugs or possibly corks to seal them off.
i would use compressed air. my 97s heater core was leaking and i bypassed it. its starting to get cold and wouldlike to replace it. do you know of any way to replace it without taking the dash apart? i didnt see any other way.
I assume that this is for your F-250. If it is like my 91, it comes out via the glove box. Take the door off (it snaps on the right side and a wire on the left, then pull it out), take the hoses off at the engine first and it will siphon the coolant out of the core when you drop one end of the hose. Take the hoses loose at the core from under the hood, push the core out using the tubes on the core under the hood, drop the core in the dash and pull it up and outthru the glove box. It is a tight fit getting it out but it can be done. I had to make a rubber chair for my new one to sit on as it wasn't an exact fit. Make sure to use a sealant on the cover panel as the A/C drain is under the core and can leak. I did mine in about 45 minutes.
