Im guessing since my interior reeks of anti freeze. And whenever i turn on my heater i get mass amounts of steam coming out of my vents. That i have a bad heater core.
My question is has anyone had any experience changing one out? Does the entire dash have to come off?
B2's are pretty easy: a few bolts to open the heater core housing, disconnect the hoses, and the heater core comes out the bottom. The instructions in Haynes/Chiltons are all you should need for this operation on a B2.
No, but, on the 1989/1990 B2 I am pretty sure you have to remove the glove box because the A/C system is different from 1984/1988 and it is the only way to completely remove the duct.
On my 89 B2, I allready have the dash assy out(fixing that rusty leaking firewall seam), The heat/ac box has a access door with 4 screws(possable more) on the bottom of the heat box where the core is located. I don't think you have to take the glove box out as the cover and core looks lower than the glove box. After the heater hoses are removed the core should lever back into the duct work for the hose bibs to clear and the whole thing should drop stright down. Then its a good time to clean out any crap thats gotten in there before a new heater core goes in!
