I have an 88 Ranger 2.3l that would idle hunt for a bit. Soon the idle hunt got real bad and it would buck at speed, smoke out the exhaust...etc. After doing the computer check, it replaced the coolant temp sensor (had to remove part of the intake), and the O2 sensor (it was over 12 years old anyway), I realized my funds were dwindling. I decided to begin a random removal of the sensor connections and re-starting to see if the problem went away. When removing the sensor wiring for the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) it evend out and went into "limp mode" and did not hunt but ran a bit rough. I replaced the firewall mounted MAP sensor (about 50 bucks and 10 minutes) removed the negative battery cable for 10 more minutes and started it up and it ran like new. Try that and always reset the computer by removing the battery connection for a bit. Good luck. e3 - spamman
ok have replaced plugs/wires,cap,evc sensors, both map sensors, one on manifold, one on fire wall, haven't changed the pickup coil yet, have been told this could be the problem. or it could be the ignition switch I'm at a real loss as what to do and funds are getting low.also been told that if the computer is bad it will not tell on it's self there's another $98 dollars!

I own Bronco II, '88. Where do I purchase the Map Sensor? I was quoted $169.00 plus $45.00 for labor. Also I need a Throttle Body Plate. I do not know much about cars...other than I've dropped $$$ into this one, still runs good but I do not want to be taken to the bank and can't make withdrawals. Can someone offer a few suggestions? Thank you!
You can replace the map sensor. If you live in a area that has auto parts stores, you
can look the sensor up on their websites, if they are a national chain. Autozones
website has info on repairs and replacement. Make sure your vacuum lines are in good shape also.
