Don't BOO the shops $80 computer scan fee, as it takes most of an hour just to run through all the KOEO & KOER tests, then record any fault codes the scanner finds, then the suspect sensor must be tested/inspected.
Fair enough. I was under the impression that it was a short task - like plugging a camera into a computer. Thanks for letting me know - I now wish to formally retract the BOO!...
The truck is now starting fine - glad that has been solved.
Now, I hadn't driven the truck 100 km after the repair when the Check Engine Light came on.
I brought it into a different shop to get the codes read (that was for you pawpaw!!) to see what was up.
The shop that read the codes indicated that it there was something going with the EGR valve (I can't recall the specifics). With some quick inspection they found a loose vacuum tube had come loose.
Would the shop that replaced the ECT have been curious about the EGR valve?
What are the chances that this vacuum hose falling off in 100 km of driving and it not being related to the work that was done earlier?
And how long would it take between the hose falling off and the CEL coming on??
Now I don't want to sound like a consiracy theorist, but I was told that when something goes awry, the first place to look is the work that was last done.
Not that uncommon for hoses or wires to get knocked around or accidently pulled off when working on a modern engine. So it could have happened when the ECT was replaced.
The lack of free code scanning must be a trade off for the free health care system! LOL
HAHAHA - If that was the only consolation for free healthcare life would be rosy... We pay for it, don't you worry. Our income taxes for some people are in the 50% range....

If this is true - would people here suggest calling the shop that did the ECT replacement for a refund/credit for the 80 bucks that I had to spend to get the codes tested and hose reinstalled?
I have problems starting my 2004 f150 5.4 some times. No pattern to problem hot or cold. Some time it will start right up and some times it will just crank over. When it just cranks over I spray some quick start in air box and it starts right up. No problems with lack of pick up or any thing after it running. Have put in new fuel filter , i was told it could be a bad fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump. Can any help me out with this problem.
