tailgate problems (i know , i searched)

ok , i was having problems getting the drivers side of the tailgate to actually lock the latch , so i went down and bought a new one from ford , $50, but now its installed and doing the same thing , i have tried adjusting , but there is no slop to adjust, so i fiddled and fiddled and its seems that the center handle area is either corred too much or theres a spring missing to allow it to come back fully , which is my best guess , im looking for a parts list or a diagrahm of the tailgate innards , i found one post from a while ago and the link is dead , anyone know of another.

Sound's like the problem I was having... the tailgate wouldn't latch. I took the tailgate apart and found a broken spring. I then found a photo of the mechanism at broncograveyard.com, bought a replacement spring at Home Depot and fixed it.

Here is the thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=285270

well i never did find the picture i was looking for , but i did however added a few springs to the latch mechanisisms and made it work, i did propably make a mistake and took off the lower plunger rod , the one that makes it not open if the widnow isnt down all the way , i added a spring there to keep it down so i could open the lift handle , and added another to pull the left side back since it wouldnt go all the way. and after a little adjusting to the latch mechinism to get the rigth and left side ot open prpoerly , it finally works . at least im gettign a little proactice wit hthis tailgate before i go all out and buy a replacement one , and replace all the peices.
