hey everyone, first i'll tell you what i have, then what i want. i have a 360 out of a 1972 f250, 2 bbl. carb, pretty much bone stock. i want to spruce it up a little, and i would like to know the best, cheapest way to do it, under $1000. i need the total rebuild package, bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. a new intake, maybe just a stock 4 bbl from a 390? a cam that will increase torque, distributor-no points, headers, possibly some different heads, a carb, necessary to replace plastic timing gear? fuel pump. anything else that should be replaced too.
the reason i am asking is i read the thread on Edlebrock perfomer and rpm intakes, and i realized the performer seams to be a waste of money. so i figured id better ask so i dont screw up and waste my money. thanks
You're asking a lot. I'd head down to Napa for the bearings, pistons, rings, gaskets, etc. If you know someone with an account go through them, it's cheaper that way.
Then head down to your friendly local machine shop and ask 'em how much to recondition everything on your engine. This includes overbore if necessary, cylinder head reconditioning, new freeze plugs, hot tanking, etc.
Get back with that cost then we'll see what we have to play with.
Well if you go to napa and get your rebuild kit with pistons, and get your block done. Then go to the junk yard get a manifold and a 4 bbl carb....probobly under a houndred for both, then get a rebuild kit for the carb for around 25-30 bucks. Then gat a crane343901 cam for whatever the price is. Get your heads looked at and that should....if your careful put you right around 1K. I got a 4bbl manifold for like 60 bucks(Rip-off) and a 4bbl for 25 bucks at the junk yard so it can be done, I got a set of flowtech headers from Oreily auto parts for 110 dollars and they fit perfect the first time and i never used gaskets(never leaked in 7 years). Just pick and choose and your parts and do the work yourself and it can be done.
