I am getting ready to pull my 390. I want to do a mild rebuild. Any suggestions on kits/pkgs would be appreciated. Or should I buy individual parts. Where is the best quality for price? I am on a moderate budget.
\Thanks, Ray.
northernautoparts.com Be very specific on what you want but be careful also. The website says you'll get Felpro gaskets, I ended up with Victor Rienz. Spend the extra $20 and get something other than a stock cam. The pistons you'll get are 4 winked/dished, don't get dished. Have your crank measured before you order the kit to ensure you get the right sized bearings, that'll also help if you have to have the crank turned. If you have to buy a new crank, buy new rods. Without the crank it was $350
Not to insult your intelligence, have you ever rebuilt a 390 before? I rebuilt my first one about 7 months ago and now going back and fixing what I didn't know then. Good luck, brother.
Thats an interesting build using the 521 cam with non roller lifters. I never thought of that.
Yeah, because it wont work. Roller cams need roller lifters. You'll destroy both the cam and lifters almost immediately with non-roller lifters on a roller cam. Maybe they meant non-roller rockers with a roller cam?
Edit: They painted it the wrong color!

Yea it wasnt making much sense until i looked at the pictures and figured out they had it mixed up. Thats pretty much what parts im using in my upcoming build so at least i know what to expect.
Did anyone catch the part about modifying the edelbrock heads for oil return? I thought we had established that oil mods werent necessary with those heads.
Wow, I sure lost control of this thread. All I wanted was some input of different rebuild kits available. Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.
Oh sorry dude...... Maddog racing on ebay has rebuild kits under 400.00, but the cams leave a little to be desired.
Check Accelerated Motion web site too. The autoparts store should be fine for a general rebuild if there is nothing special about the build your planning on doing. Just go with felpro and federal-mogul parts kits and your in there.
i got most of my parts at napa (pistons, bearings, gaskets, oil pump etc.), but did go to summit for cam/lifters and some other hi-po stuff. i'm fixin to drop the new bullit in this weekend Lord willing!
