I just bought a set of Stans tri y's for my 71 f100 4x4 it has a 390 fe and manual transmission. I gave them all of the info and the headers they sent me did not fit. The drivers side dumped out into the front of the transfer case and the passenger side could not be bolted on without taking the engine out. Has anyone else had this experience. This is the second time I have heard of this. Can anyone tell me of a header that will bolt on my engine that does not require me to take the engine out and one that follows the stock exhuast path?/ All help greatly appreciated.
Good, what is the part number of the headers that you have ? Stan's is usually known for a pretty good fit. I wonder if they sent you F250 headers by mistake ? Or something intended for a 2wd truck ? DF,@ his Dad's house
Headmans will fit but are etremely tight on the passenger side between starter and frame, I have a set for a f100 4x4 if your interested, but they are not on the truck because of what I said. tooo tiiight to the point I thought it would rattle or burn the starter.
I already ordered some .but if they are too tight ill stick with stock exhaust.I have a resurfacred pair of exhaust manifolds and heat shileds,my truck never sees hi rpms mostly trail and haulin.
I put Hedman's on my 72. Dots is right. It's a &#$** tight fit around the starter! My son learned a lot of interesting new words from Daddy on that day. Ratted me off to mommy too, that little weasel. Anyway, too late to take them back. Anyone know of any actual cases where the pipes caused a problem to the starter due to the heat? If so, I wonder if it would be wise to wrap the header pipes with heat barrier tape I see sold in a Summit catalog. Anyone ever used that tape before?
I sent them back and put my stock exhaust manifolds on. Header wrap sucks it can make your arms itch when you do any work around it. I am glad I went the stock manifolds easy fit no hassles and it performs good enough for me.
Nice. Too nice... Does FPA make something less flashy/cheaper? I dont drive with the hood open so i dont care what it looks like in there so long as it works
wow, if I could afford it I would DEFINITELY get those right now!!!!! so I unfortunately have to sell a kidney or something in order to fit those into my budget.
well, those are ceramic coated...not to be flashy. Ceramic helps them last and to keep things cooler. They do offer them without ceramic coating for about $425..(that's a guess from my fading memory :-)

Hey Greg...
Do you know if cast exhust manifolds can be ceramic coated?
Or is there a high temp powder coating?
Thanks...
