I have a 1997 F250 with the 460 with 129000 on the clock. I bought the truck a few months ago and just noticed a knock under load at highway speeds. I am curious if this is could be solved with a higher octane fuel. My 89 aerostar runs without any rattling with mid grade gas, but you drop it to the cheap stuff and she rattles like mad under load. Any insights would be appreciated as I am new to this engine.
Thanks.
Sorry for the double post. It had given me an error like it hadn't gone.

I went with Dad to Reno to get a '52 F1. He has a '95 F250 with a 460. I noticed it knocked just like my 94 302 and the V6 in my Explorer. They all seem to be octane knock. It must be fairly common.
try using some slick 50 oil additive and not the regular slick 50, this one is in a smaller bottle and looks like thick white lotion. also put some marvel mystery oil and some stp octane booster. also try switching your oil brand. if your using synthetic use a blend or stop because you'll hear your lifters clatter.
