Thumbs up Gibson vs. Flowmaster

I plan on getting a new exhuast system for my 98 f150 4.6L. I am debating on which exhaust to get, Flowmaster or gibson. My buddy has got a gibson exhaust on his dodge 318 and it sounds awesome. Nice deep rumble to it. I have also been told that Gibson adjusts each muffler to the type of truck you have. Flowmaster on the other hand doesnt do that, and can effect your emission computer sometimes. Also I was told flowmaster has a more rappy sound to them. I dont want that sound. Strictly deep tone rumble. Is any of this true?? Help me make my descion. FLOWMASTER OR GIBSON!

i have flowmaster 40 series on my truck and it sounds great. And all my buddys have flowmaster on there trucks. i haven't hurd anything good about gibson mufflers. The guy that put the muffler on my truck said that you could tune the flowmaster to match the truck and the sourd that i wanted. if it were me i would go with the flowmaster.

No a Flowmaster will not effect the emmisions in any way. All it will do is remove some restriction from the exhaust system which may even give you a few hp.
I have Flowmasters on 4 of my vehicles. They have more of a hollow throaty sound. Not raspy. The converters quieten down the truck quite a bit anyway. The Dodge trucks don't have 2 preheaters and 2 cats on them, they will be louder than a Ford. I have heard that a Gibson is barely noticable on a 97-up F150. I have never heard one personally though.

Gibson

I have a 2000 F-150 with a Gibson Dual Exhaust. For me it came with the truck so its fine. But personally i feel its not a loud as it could be. u really have to get into the pedal to get the sound out of it at the low RPMs. I personally want to replace it but its like new so its not worth it.

Also with my Gibson Dual exhaust u need to remove the spare tire b/c it cannot be removed after installation, and also the passenger side pipe tends to rub against the shock body on that side.

This all depends on how well your exhaust shop runs a bender.

I've never seen a vehicle that had to have the spare removed to put on dual exhaust, if the person running the bender knew what they were doing.

My dual flows do not have this problem.

I didnt have them installed on the truck, it came from the dealer with the system on it, from the looks it was a basic cat back system. (I havent been under the truck much).
However you have given me a great idea, to cut off the pipes after the muffler, and have a company run new pipes to fit around the spare tire, i would also be able to bend the section away from the shock housing as well.(Onlyt melted the plastic, Dealer said it would be fine)

I have a Flowmaster on my 97 F150w/4.6 engine and it sounds really good. I wanted duals but no glasspacks. This muffler has a low, mellow sound, not much louder than a stock system. I get comments on how well it sounds too. I'd opt for the Flowmaster.
