Been looking at this chip here:

http://www.motorhaven.com/customer/p...cat=169&page=1

Wondering if anyone is using one for their V10. I have a 99 DRW V10 and
was looking for some enhancements. Anyone have some info they can share about their gains and if this chip is worth the money?

I have the tri tune 1715 on my 2000 V10, and I love it. I put it on about two months ago, and haven't changed out of the performance tune yet.

I didn't notice any MPG gain, but the power increase is very noticeable. The firmness of the shifting, and the change in the shift points really makes a dramatic difference in how this truck performs.

Of course, the one downside is the price of 92-93 octane gas, but, so far, it's been worth it.

I'm hoping to try out the towing program in the next few weeks...

One thing to remember is that the 99 V10 had less horse power than the 2000 and up models, so I don't know if you will see the increase in power as easily as I did...

I was interested in this one as well...I understand you should see an increase in MPG in the towing mode especially when you are NOT towing (doen't make sense to me...but I've read that somewhere). I also read that you no longer need to run premium when your not towing (in the tow mode), but reccomend you do so, when towing...

I'm not speaking from experience though...I don't have one (yet!)

Myckle,

Did you see an increase in MPG? If so, how much?

not worth discussing about the mpg gains. the scmt turns youre truck into a toy. what else would you spend youre money on besides youre toys. the performance gains and throttle response should be enough without worrying about a mile per gallon x 33 divided by $2 equals.... what about nothing.. save youre money on laundry detergent ( whatever that costs)
step out of the box (tide) and go with a throttle body, intake and exhaust.
just my late night opinion.

To my knowledge, and according to the instruction booklet that came with the SCMT, you are supposed to run premium octane on both the performance and towing programs at all times. The tri tune model has a program that just basically adjusts the shift firmness and shift points to help it perform better, but you don't see any increase in power.

Remember, any MPG gain with these tuners is a bonus. They are not intended to increase fuel mileage, only to increase the performance of the engine.

To me, the additional cost of the premium fuel is well worth the performance gains that I have received by using the SCMT.

On the Hypertech it will give you the option what fuel you want to use and it will tune your engene tot the besr preformence for that occtane rate.

ok thanks for your opinions guys. I am still undecided on the chip. If I had a diesal it would be a no brainer but with a V10 I just don't know if it's worth it. It was $399 and when I called and spoke to them they said I could buy it for $359. Maybe I'll call and tell them $300 and I'll do it

ive been thinkin about it too

ive been interested in some time in trying one of these also, but just havent read anyone really state they can tell a differance in power... if you want the shift changes, they work.. but i already have a shift kit and like the way it shifts.. if it could increase horsepower on a dyno.. id pay the 91 octane to have the more power.

I was hoping to hear of some increase in MPG as well as HP like the boys (oh yeah, sorry...and girls) who drive diesels report. I do alot of towing (32' travel trailer) and would pay the extra money for the 91 oct gas too (already do when I tow).

Currently I get 9 MPG when towing and 11-13 when I'm driving around on the freeway. Would I see any improvement there?

I have the 5.4 and have been happy with the results. I haven't put in on a dyno so it may well be in my mind, but before I put the tuner on it I couldn't spin the tires from a stand still. Now with it it will leave some nice stripes on the pavement. No increase in MPG. I also like the fact that the speed limitor is gone (yes the 5.4 will spin the tires and go over 94 for you doubters). I keep it set to tow(easier than changing when needed).
just my .02

JJ,

I can definitely tell an increase in power with the SCMT and my V10. I haven't towed with it yet, but I'm sure that the difference will be noticeable as it is unloaded. It's definitely been worth the investment. You can tell the difference when flooring at a dead stop, and it seems to really increase performance when passing.

Hope this helps...

Superchips does the same thing, and it tunes at all throttle positions.
