Because people that have old tractors have a tendency to hold onto them, and people that need one would often rather buy new so they have dealer support if anything goes wrong.

This is a 5 year old thread with a new question about which oil to use in a particular tractor.

Let me guess, you found this while trying to find parts for your antique tractors.... (former operator of '54 NAA, '51 Cornbinder, & 2 '57 WD45s.)

I have a Ford 8000, Farmall 560D and my loader tractor is an Allis Chalmers 170D. I wouldn't have anything else and I can still get all the parts & service I need locally through the dealers.

Those are as modern as tomorrow compared to those previously listed. My old man was real bitter when Deutz took over and he couldn't get parts for the 1952 Roto-baler any more....

This one has the front attachment we didn't have to feed back the excess while it wound the twine on the bale just before it popped it out like a dog having pups. It also has the tray in back to stand the bales on end so they dry good. (doesn't work very well)

YouTube - Allis Chalmers roto bailer

Them roundies didn't break like square bales, and we just made walls with them and then dumped the rest without stacking. They were 40-60 lbs.

wow! i last posted in this thread 5 years ago! we no longer have the '64 ford 4000. wish we did, it was a fairly rare bird and i could have displayed it at antique ag shows without a full-out restoration. everyone has had a JD "A" or "B" and theres hundreds of those at mint restored condition, but a 4000, ive only seen one other, and it was a row-crop select-o-speed, ours was a wide front 5speed. dad traded it for a 66 JD 1020 with a loader. not a bad tractor, but i wish we could have gotton a loader for the 4000. the 1020 is a 3 cyl and does have some awesome stuff like diff lock that the 4000 didnt have, but the weird thing is that the 4000 had a 2 stage clutch, halfway down was the trans, fully down was pto. the 1020 cuts evrything when you dump the clutch. live pto was a option on it, dont know why it wasnt std. theres not much new stuff out there ive seen that ive liked. hydrostats are nice but if they have issues, its some serious money to fix. this older stuff i can keep going on my own as long as i can still get parts. not a problem with 'deere, but those green parts aint cheap!
