I own a 2002 7.3 4x4 S/C F350 SRW with just over 32000 on it, runs great, enjoy the truck. Anyway, I have been using the Motor Craft 15w40 oil and Motor Craft oil filters ( Ford Dealer Oil Changes $80.00). I am wondering is the Rotella 15w40 as good or better than the 15w40 Motor Craft Oil? I have been thinking about changing the oil myself using the Rotella and the Motor Craft Filter ( About $37.00 purcahsed at Walmart or Rotella 5w40 and a Motor Craft Oil Filter about $62.00). I will have to buy a decent grease gun but I'm not sure where to buy a decednt grease gun or how much to spend on one. I think there are (5) grease points under the front end? What do you guys think? I believe the Rotella 5w40 would be best in the winter here in Maryland or can I get by with 15w40???
Rotella is a fine product and will work great in your PSD. So is the MC. I guess it's up to you as far as which one you wanna use. Personally, I have used Rotella for years without problems. For winter, you can either use the syn blend 5W-40 or the dino 10W-30. I use the 10W-30 because it is less expensive. If you plug in, you'd probably be able to use 15W-40 all year in MD.
As far as a grease gun goes, you should be able to get a decent one for around $20. I'd buy a pistol grip one because they're just easier to use. Don't forget to pick up a whip hose too. I'm almost certain there are more than 5 zerks as well - I'll hafta count them next time I grease.
Another thing you might want to consider is a Fumoto Valve. It's a real time and mess saver!

I have three or four $15 grease guns because I'm too cheap to pay $20 for a good one! Don't buy a bargain grease gun.
I run Rotella T Synthetic year round. The engine seems to run quieter than it did on 15w-40. I like the 5w for the winter. Like Oppy said, get the pistol grip grease gun. You can hold the hose on the fitting with one hand and pump the grease with the other. Auto parts stores that cater to garages usually carry quality grease guns. Wal Mart has the best price on the oil and Motorcraft filters. The filters are cheaper than discount at the dealer.

Hi All,
I just changed my oil last weekend and went for Amsoil series 3000 HD diesel oil 5w30. Paid a premium for the Amsoil,,,,,but I figure it's the blood of my engine. I've always used synthetic in my cars/vans/trucks and even in my atv's with nothing short of excellent results. (winters in Central NY are sometimes brutal also)
Yes I understand that there will be alot of controversy over the $$$/value. But it's just like anything else- It's your choice.
Just wanted to add my 2cents,,,,,,,,,and by the way, in my truck there is a noticible difference in the smoothness and noise after warmed up. I say my truck because some may not be able to tell.
BlueMonster, I have the same 2002 truck as you only it's a 250 instead of the 350. I've used Rotella ever since it was brand new. I have 82k on it now and I've had no problems. I always buy the FL1995 filter at Walmart for 10$ and the Rotella there for about $7 a gallon (non syn).
Since your engine is still under warranty you may wish to avoid any dealer warranty hassles by reading what Amsoil oils actually have the API license. See what five (5) products Amsoil has that are truly API certified/licensed. The one that dynamicdesigns mentions is not on there. Please don't take this wrong, I'm only trying to help a fellow psd owner from having any hassles with the dealership.

Hey- every bit of information is good on this forum. What I think I know today, may change for tomorrow.
When I was about 12yrs., I remember watching my Uncle Mike working on cars,,,,and as any youngster- I was a curious chatterbox. He would always tell me- "Shut up and watch what I'm doing" I've never forgotten that,,,and to this day, I always listen when someone speaks. Especially when it differs from what I might think. It's the only way to learn.
I called Mobil engineering and got their recommendations on which synthetic to use in the engine and in the tranny. I feel very comfortable with their products (as did my Dad). I have used Mobil 1 in numerous cars and light trucks with great results. I have gained about a mile to the gallon on my PSD since I put Mobil synthetic in. I have never had to plug a vehicle in or had one fail to start with Mobil 1 and that's in Montana winters and no garage. My brother has been in the automotive parts business for over 30 years and recommends NAPA gold filters (made by WIX). So much for my comments. I would appreciate it if when Oppy lubes again if you will let us know where the zerks are. I have found 4. If I spend any more time on my back under that truck the neighbores are going to start talking.
1999.5 F250, Lariat, Ext. Cab, Long Box, Auto, W/Banks Bighead and Trans Command, Gauges on the Tree. Also have Honda generator and Compressor permanently mounted in box.
There is nothing like a Lincoln 12V Cordless Power Luber. I have a diesel tractor with FE Loader, with a total of at least 20 zirks. You can be in any position and still squeeze the trigger with the power luber. I use Mobil 1 grease cartridges in it.
