spread bore/square bore

hi, newbie here ,ive got a simple question ,will a square bore carb with a one inch aluminum riser (edelbrock 750),work correctly on a spreadbore intake ,is there any kind of adapter made? thank you very much!

A simple question, but not necessarily a simple answer. There's a lot of things to consider such as hood clearance, mixture distribution, throttle linkage, etc. etc. etc., but the short answer is, yes, it will work on a spreadbore intake, & yes, there are adapters available. I assume you are installing the E-brock on a stock intake; you might also look at the Holley 650 & 800 Vacuum secondary spreadbores, if you plan to keep this intake permanently. Also, make sure your throttle/trans linkage doesn't bind & is able to open the carb all the way at full pedal travel. Good luck & welcome to the board!

Holley used to make a square bore to spread bore adapter plate. If they don't still make them you could probably pick one up at a swap meet or on ebay.

Mr. Gasket used too (probably still do also) make one that you could use to install a square on a spread. They ran about $15 or so at Autozone and such

re square bore/spread bore

thank you guys ,for the help,this web site is awsome,i tried it and it worked! junkyard motors arent all that bad after all! thanks

i did this exact thing today. i found a almost new Q-jet at the pick your part yard today $20.00. got an adapter from checker for $20. it's in and works good. $40 bucks total for a new carb.

just a quick question, a square bore is the one with the 4 same size ports arn't they? spread bore have the 2 big ports and 2 small ports?
