Exclamation Broken distributor

Hello all. I was having an extremely hard time getting the distribuotr out of my 1974 460 motor. I moved the crank to try to take pressure off the gear but it did not work. I sprayed lube around the base also, but that didn't work either. Finally I kept tapping the distributor side to side and prying up on it with several tools. So what happened was the damn casing broke on the dist. now I am left with just the shaft sticking up. What can I do to get this out? I have pried on it with a pipe wrench, used a crow bar, but nothing is working?! I think something is wrong here. I've never had this kind of problem with a distributor before? I paid a guy to work on it and I think he screwed something up!!!!!! Anyway. All help would be appreciated.

Mark

if the distrib. is already broken and your motor is apart you might try applying a little heat with a torch. first try a hand held propane. very carefully heat the block around the distrib. my 460 had this problem cuz no one ever adjusted the timing, luckly mine came loose with penatrating oil and a pry bar. be careful around fuel lines. if they are still present you might want to remove them.......

Talking Stuck Distributor

If all else fails you can drill beside the edge of dist and block , being carefull
not to damage the block . If you coat the drill bit with sticky grease you can keep the chips out of your engine. I've had drill up to 5or6 holes sometimes more
too free really sticky ones.
I hope this helps HOTWRENCH
