Hey Again.
Next question (didn't want to get too much on the last thread):
If I get a generic OBD II scann tool from Advance or AutoZone will I be able to get the codes from a 98.5 E-350 PSD engoine? I have done several searches and most of the advice is to buy a Tuner. I cannot afford one at this time, but I still would like to get my truck back on the road. What are my options? I know I can have it towed to a dealership and have them read it( Maybe- the truck is kind of like Frankensteins monster, Its a 90 SRW F-350, but the motor is out of a 98 E-350 ambulance, Tranny and T-case are out of a 99 4x4 Duelly). Not sure if a dealer would even touch it.
Thanks for the info.
Craig
Don't have a manual(haven't bought one yet) . The package says it will read Ford cars and Light Duty trucks. Is an E-350 with the Ambulance package considered light or medium duty?
Thanks again to all.
Craig
I would think it would be medium duty, but I'm not for sure. Maybe someone else can give some more info. Does the one you are looking at have a web site? If so maybe it will give specifics on it.
The generic scanners like the ones that you have mentioned will read only a few codes. The PSD have hundreds of specific codes that none of the standard hand helds will supporrt. A programmer is a cheaper alternative to getting an enhanced code reader and you have a programmer. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
OBD ll readers will only work on 1996 and newer cars and trucks, if you don't have a plug in under the dash to the right of center that you can see then you won't have a place to plug it in. So you may have to take to a shop to get the codes.

It shouldn't matter what the year of the truck, it has a psd from a 98' which should have a OBD II port on it, if whoever swaped he engine used all of the wiring harness from the doner truck and kept the OBD II port.

Yes, unless he chopped the wires when removing from the donar vehicle, but it would be a fairly simple task to wire it back in if missing I would think.
