Hello to all. I usually stay on the powerstroke forum, but thought you all might be able to help me more. I have a "Frankin-truck". It started as a 90 F-350 4x4 with an E4OD behind a non-turbo 7.3 liter diesel. A couple of years ago I yanked the motor, tranny and t-case. I replaced it all with a Powerstroke from a 98 E350 ambulance, a 6-speed and t-case from a wrecked 99 duelly. My T-case developed a leak that was worse than I thought. I ran her dry and didn't realize it. Now it slips if I lock it in.
My question is, can I use a t-case from a 95 5 speed truck? will it bolt up to the six speed? Is the spline count the same?\
Thank to everyone who responds,
Craig
PS. I think I can get the 95 case real cheap.
thanks
They cannot be swapped. I was given a NVG271 out of a 2000 F350 by my cousin who works for a Ford dealership. I planned on trying to put it in my 1988. Found out that the bolt pattern was correct but the spline counts were different. Pre 1999 trucks had a 31 spline input shaft on the transfer case. 1999 and up transfer cases have a 29 spline input. Kinda screwed me too. The only way I was told it could work was to have a custom output shaft made for my tranny to use the newer transfer case. That being said you would probably have to have a new output shaft made to use the older transfer case.
Thanks for the reply.
Ok then. Will my 90 model t-case fit any truck up through 98? Are the cases the same behind the Auto and Manual trannies?
Just curious about that. I guess I will have to start looking for a newer one.
Craig
2nd, your transfer case should fit anything from the 70's up through 1998. The transfer cases should be the same for automatic and manual transmissions. The only difference I've ever seen is the adapter housing that the x-fer case mounts to is different for automatic and manual trannys.
