Hi RR

If you look at my join date and post count, it is obvious I could careless about posting status. I was just asking some questions

I agree totally with you about the spammers and such.

If you look at all my posts you'll find that most of them are right here on this thread. But we have solved several mysteries on here. LOL. Anyway post counts don't mean alot to me either because I have seen that same thing on some of my other forums of addiction and some of it makes me wonder. On one forum I go to that is a hunting/fishing forum there was a gal that was like the #2 in total posts and knew absolutely nothing about hunting. She got on one thread that was going on hunting coyotes and asked why we hunted them if we don't eat them. I actually did look at a bunch of her posts one time and they were all, you guessed it, hello type posts.

In all fairness too that is why we fill out profiles that say what we do and what our experiences with Ford trucks are.

If I may say so, in regards to post counts and titles.

Any person could come in here, ask a billion questions without giving any of us any real information to go on, and expect an answer, and maybe answer 2 questions in that time, and gain the title of "guru" and the two questions answered could potentially be as thoughtless and as mis-leading, or so general, that they are not really answers. Another person could come in here, post once a month, have been a Ford mechanic proffessionally for the last 40 yrs, and has forgotton more than most of us are ever going to know, and remain a "new user" or barely past that for a long time to come. Your post count also comes from other areas of the forum, and the "water cooler" sections, where you end up with idle chit-chat about crashing garden tractors, and the bbq you had last weekend also add to your post count. The bbq you had last weekend hardly makes you a guru.

My intent with this post is not to offend, as I've seen MANY very knowledgeable posts, and learned a few things here and there myself in my short time here. I've also seen many posts where one posts what works for them(correct method or not) for a particular repair. (One in particular sticks in my head in reference to beating in u-joints with a BFH)
Many other forums that I visit in regards to various topics, including graphic arts, pc help(hardware and software), mechanical venues of various sorts, as well as gaming, and a few other ones that are more for relax and mindless-ness while sucking back a case of suds, base a poster's title on the ratings they get for the posts they've made. (ie) I make a post that solves someone's problem, they give me a vote for a better rating, therefore I move up the ladder. If I make a post that totally causes someone to burn their truck to the ground because i had them hook their battery up backwards and then connect the alternator to it and run 50 yards away with their eyes closed....I get a crappy rating.....(bad example maybe, but you get my point) All it would take to get a guru rating based on post count alone is spamming each post with the word "hello" every day for a week or less. Hardly makes one a guru of anything other than being able to spell the word hello at this point. Take the titles for what they are worth, but give credit to the real guru's, when they help you solve a problem PROPERLY, with accurate, correct directions, using the proper specs for tourque(when applicable), proper methods of removing old and installing new parts, rather than the "beat it outta there any way y'all can" method.

To those who take the time to look up the proper methods, or have in the past used them, and pass them on, to you I will say, YOU are GURU's! To those who make working on Fords your living, I give you the GURU title as well, to those that just pull it apart with "what you have lying around", and post that others should do the same....ummm....it might work, but hardly falls into a "guru" status here....

End rant....user titles have seen their time and use in many ways over the years, let's just not forget who the real guru's are, rather than those who just tend to post in every thread possible to drive their rating up. My 2 cents....have a great day all...I'm off to sleep.

RR does make a good point...

I am not a mechanic in any sense of the word. I do not touch my vehicle with a wrench nor do I profess to know anything about the inner workings of the beast. My mechanical ability is reserved for gas, tires, and calling the serviceman for help if the first two don't make it go.

My contributions on this site are reserved for the few things I do know something about. As the wise Clint Eastwood once said "A man's got to know his limitations"!

I am here to learn. I'll contribute when I can, but I am here to learn more about the Excursion and what I can do to make it better and personalize it.

He sure does make a good point, I for one, am just a shadetree mechanic, and dont claim to be more. I think thats the way alot of us are here, to share knowledge and try to learn, and ask questions. No matter what or where you go in life there will always be those just in it for the glory tho

I'm in about the same boat. My automotive mechanical knowledge came from what I learned on the farm; tractors, equipment, trucks etc. Not a genius mech. on cars but I can get through most things, my 2004 F-150 on the other hand will go to the dealer to get worked on.

The technical training I do have comes from my HVACR stuff, after getting a degree in it I worked in it for three years and did alot of cool stuff. HVAC, construction, home repairs, plumbing (even though I hate it) and electrical stuff is where my skills are the strongest.

I come from a farming background as well, and worked for a number of years as a motorcycle/atv/snowmobile/personal watercraft, and other small engines type mechanic. As well, I've worked in the trucking industry(currently am) and have worked on various big rigs, as well as an odd assortment of other equipment. I'd classify myself as a shadee-tree mechanic as well, with more knowledge in some areas than others, but by no means an expert of any kind. I'm definitely here to draw off the knowledge pool. Glad to see there's so many of us that are, as it only adds to the quality of the forum.

I would love to have made the renunion........
Fiend I believe is 2,500........guess we'll know in a little bit.

Yea, Bird, all day shift it seems. Today being the first day, not sure f the schedule.
It looks like an early shift though. As I figured, gonna be some restructuring goin around.
I was with the G.M. from morning till we went to lunch. After some talking over lunch...I was left to see what happens thru the day. Some of the people I have worked with in the past. Those who dont know me......seemed a little nervous.
They heard stories while I was off to lunch......they should all be fine now.
The people I already knew told some old stories about how I'm a screw off and all.

Good evening Ryan, my coworker tonight is in the hospital with his wife. She is due in late Jan. and I guess was ahving some minor problems and they admitted her for observation. Guess I'm the lone ranger tonight in this office, glad I got internet, FTE, and streamaudio.

I also have a can of Skoal that I've had since Sunday, I haven't dipped in this office since Monday shift and I've only had two since then. Trying to quit but it's a night like this when I have had little sleep that I'll probably give in. Lets hope I can resist.

Skoal Straight. Have you ever dipped the apple stuff Drew? That's some good stuff but it has that aftertaste, yuck. I never really liked Copenhagen that much, it seemed to dry for me, the long sut wasn't bad but I'll stick to my skoal till I quit. HOPEFULLY SOON!

Yep, I have the rainbow of skoal cans in one of my boxes in the garage. I tried every flavor they offer. The cherry ain't bad and the apple is an aquired taste, the more you do the better it gets. I prefer the mint over all of them though. I love my Cope, it's just kinda expensive. I have been dippin Timber wolf Peach though too. It's good and only $2 for a can.

God knew there would be idiots like me who'd get up when everyone else is sleeping, warm up the 6 axle and head to Cleveland to get salt. That's why He created the coffee bean. OooRah to our finest in Iraq!
