"Social" caliber, .45ACP (never need an excuse that way)
All around - .22lr
Hunting - .35 Remington - out of my T/C. Someday I'll find a Remington pump action in .35 Rem that isn't gold plated.....

Rifles: For varmits/coyotes a .22-250 Remington 700, for deer and antelope a .30-06 Remington 721, for elk and moose a .338 Win Mag. Still love the old, tried and true .45-70 though.
Pistols: In a revolver, a .44 mag or the .45 Colt. In an auto, give me a .45 ACP.
Shotguns:Remington 1100 20 gauge

.30-06 and 7mm magnum
.45 ACp
.22
12 gauge for shotguns.

I happen to like the .38/.357 for handguns as well because of the huge variety of loads available and the versatility offered for handloading mild loads in .38 or hot loads in the .357.

My choice in just purchasing a deer rifle was a Rem 280, little more punch than 270,little flatter than 30.06.

All around best hunting rifle has to be the 30.06 though.

.30-06 is one of those calibers that you either have one - or need one. Have a sporterized Mauser and a June '44 Garand

As far as handguns go, I will always take a 45. I'm hoping to get a Remington 30-06 and either a Mossberg 500 or a Mossberg 830 one of these days. You can never have too many guns

Old Fart hit it on the head.

I have seen -06's loaded down with a 220 grain slug and seen them loaded with a friggin' 100 grain hollow point.

Bout the only other round that can even come close is its replacement, the .308...

My next purchase will be an 03-A3 because I will have had my Argentine mauser rebarreled to .308 with Leupold mount on it by then.

Gotta love handloading. I have .44 Special loads that my kids were shooting before they were into double digits - and .44 Mag loads that come out of the same gun that I won't go through a whole box of in one sitting.

Had a Ruger #1 in .45-70 that was the same way, plink to POW. Wish I still had it - one of these days the Marlin lever gun in .45-70 will go bye-bye in favor of another #1 methinks

308 winchester for rifles, good balistics that are very close to 30.06. For pistol no real strong opinion, but I prefer .40 S&W, better than 9mm, more rounds than .45ACP, less sting/recoil (I have a scandium frame) than .357Mag.
