the power windows on my aerostar driver and passenger doors are sticking on the way down. if i pull the back corner down it clunks into place and behaves. i was told the window tracks (rubber guides)around the windows need replaced. i've seen the parts in j.c.whitney. anyone try replacing these before? is it a do it yourselfer job?
Funny you should ask this. I am looking for some answers on my '93 for the A/C. I just repaired your problem this afternoon!
Remove the interior trim panel from the door (simply remove all visible screws, then using a screwdriver, pry the panel off the metal door (it uses plastic rivets that shouldn't be damaged when you do this). Once you've got the door panel out of the way, make sure the window is all the way up. You may need a flashlight to see into the door cavity, but you'll see the lower tracks without too much trouble. My problem was the driver door, so the left lower track seemed to be the problem. There is a single bolt that holds that lower track in place (at least in my case). Remove that bolt and you can remove the lower track. In my case, I simply need to realign the track (by leaving it attached to the door and twisting it clock-wise (if I was looking from the top down). You may need to slightly bend or twist yours to get it to work smoothly. If all else fails, get a new one. It's a 15-minute replacment, and I'm sure the part must be less than $50.
I bought snap silicone spray and have sprayed the guides and the glass edges.. I applied it for about a week, every other day, and it lasts about 8 months. clean the looking part of the glass only and you will be fine. the felt wears off the rubber guides and the glass hangs on the guides.. mine ran faster than ever after the silicone spray....
