I did see a little device attached up there. It has electrical wiring going to it. I will see if I can find a pic. Well I found a pic in the 6L Bible but couldn't save it as a jpg.
Also you are right and I guessed right. It's the one I thought it was and it is called the EVRT/VGT Control Valve.
The VGT control valve is hydraulically (oil) controlled. Are there any other issues like rough running, cutting out, etc.?
You may very well be right but it does have an electrical connection to it according to what I see when I look at it and the 6L Bible. It must either feedback to the PCM or sort of a combination like the injectors I would guess. At any rate I think I need mine replaced.
mine does that too. i just pull over, turn it off and restart. fixes it every time. my truck never sits more than a day and i drive it about 2000 miles a week. not too worried about it right now because it fixes easily. other than that the truck runs great.
btw its an 03 psd drw with the predator 65hp tune. it did it before the chip was put in as well. it only happens about twice a month maybe. i just attribute it to bad diesel.
OK here is an update. I disconnected the batteries for a couple of hours while doing another task. Now I haven't had a "no turbo boost" problem since. Also I had a #2 cylinder inbalance code going on since it was new. I would reset it and it kept coming back. Well since the bat disconnect that has gone away also. The turbo working could be because I have been driving it more lately.

Man you guys seem to be more forgiving than I am... I would never just let a problem like that go withoug getting it fixed... Id feel like an IDIOT driving peope down the road in a new vehicle and say "wait Ive got to pull over and restart it to get the turbo to work correctly"... Id deal with it on a used car but not new... seems crazy..

You are right Kenwood but if it is a simple fix I can do I will do it just to keep the dummies out from under my hood creating other problems like they have done on my last three trucks. All different dealers also. Now with that said, if disconnecting the batteries and resetting the PCM did not cure it, I will take it in. I had planned to take it in for the #2 cylinder inbalance error but then it seems to have gone away also and I have driven it over 400 miles since resetting everthing. I originally drove it home from the dealer and it had the #2 cly error. I reset it, drove it about 100miles and it was back. Everytime I cleared it, it would come back usually within 50 miles but the motor ran like a top so I was hesitant to let anyone mess with it. Who knows maybe it is the Rotella 10w-40w I am using now that cleared it up. OH boy here goes another oil thread...
My truck had been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks. Mainly due to the hurricanes here. The last time I used it I had to pull the stock trailer over to the market so I put the 45HP version in. When I got home I did the reload to 65HP. I had started it but not driven it since. Saturday morning I fire it up to head up to the farm, hit the interstate and no boost! I'm thinking what the heck is going on. I drive the interstate about 5 miles then pull over, lift the hood look around, don't see anything, turn it off, start back up and it is better but I can tell it's not right. After about 30-40 miles the power seemed to be back, the EGT's dropped about 100 deg. Seems to be back to full song except the mileage is down about 3MPG's. I read where you can go up and down with Pred tunes without doing a complete reload which is what I did. I guess I need to start from scratch and see what happen's. Should I go back to factory tune and start all over? Suggestions?
Mine does the same thing. You can turn it off and restart and it works fine. Has been back to the dealer 3 times. They have tried several things but have not correctes the problem to date. It has also blown the top tubo hose off once and this week it ruptured the bottom hose. My dealer is scheduling an engineer from Ford in in a cople weeks. Hope he can find the problem. 04 F350.

Yeah, turning mine off and then back on did not fix everytime. It only fixed it once. I did the battery disconnect two weeks ago. It has set for a week now and I will test it tonight when I go down to pick up my new log splitter. If I have boost this time I would suspect probably something in the computer go hosed. BTW, no more #2 cyl inbalance codes since resetting the PCM either.
