Wiring problem

Wiring problem

So my truck is a '78 F250 Crew cab, I put an 400 from a '77 F150 in it and the front clip from a '79 F250 Crew,

I was trying to hook up the wires, but I can not find the connection that provides power to the vehicle. I think it should connect to the solenoid, but I can not find a connection on the cab..

I looke at my '79 Parts truck, but iit connects up via a wire that is not there on the '78...

Anyone know where the connector should be on the cab?

Any reccomendations on where I can buy wiring diagrams?

the hanes manual has them in the back. i also got an original set on ebay. and i think they come with the shop manuals sold at motorhaven.com

I just ordered a set from motorhaven. I hope they are adequate.
The problem is I know in general where the wire goes, just can't find that wire...

The black wire from the starter relay runs right through directly to the fuse box.

There is a fusible link wrapped up within the wire loom (several wires) as it starts to cross the firewall from the relay.

The 78/79 are identical.

In your pic it looks like you have a few harness coming through the firewall on the drivers side.
On mine there is only one place the wiring crosses through on the drivers side.

The harness on the passenger side goes through somewhere near the middle of the cab. I will see if I can start from fuse box and trace it that way.

suggestion for positive lead to stereo?

I'm having a similar problem, trying to find a positive wire to connect a new stereo to. I ran it from the battery and it drained the battery. There wasn't a stereo in the truck when I bought it and there's a what looks like a bunch of wires that used to have a plug on them for possibly the stock radio. I tried the two red sires (one even had a sticker on it that read power) but they didn't work.

Any suggestions where I can get a good positive line? I grounded it into the screw at the ash tray and put the clock wire in at the radio fuse.

Key on power or power all the time ?

Keyed power can be had from the radio harness
Fulltime power can be run right to the battery unless you don't like that idea.
There is a power plug behind the cluster but the cluster needs removing to get at it.
