I have a 1978 Ford f250 with intermittent wipers. It has 7 wires that come off the switch and connect into the wiring harness. I have seen 1980 and later trucks in the junkyard with 6 wires coming off the switch. My question is, will the later 6 wire intermittent switch work on 73-79 trucks with the 7 wire harness plug?
Referring back to my other post on a different thread.
Due to different harness wiring, the years that are
applicable to each other are:
Only 73-76
Only 77-79
Only 80-84
Only 85-91
92-?

[font color=red size=2]I have a '73 F100 that came without intermittant wipers - I got the switch and gov off a '81 Bronco and it plugged right in and has been working great for over a year. The only extra connection I had to make was the grounding wire that goes to the ground screw on the dash. Maybe the trucks that were made with int/wipers are wired a little different, or maybe the switch and gov have to be a matched set.
I installed an interval switch assembly from an 86 on my 68 with no problems other than having to relocate the wire for the washer pump to another slot in the plug joining the dash harness. I also shortened the shaft slightly and used the original **** from my truck.
Hey, that's pretty interesting that you rigged up an intermittent wiper switch from an 86 to work on your 68. Could you give a little more detail on that? That sounds like something I'd be interested in doing. Thanks
I've had no problems with my wipers yet after a year. I did use the box from the eighty six truck and as far as that goes, Mr Banks, it was a straight plug in affair with only the ground wire to attach and the afore mentioned move of one wire. Just compare the box wiring plug to your dash harness.
