I have a 2000 F150, 2 wheel drive, 5.4. I'm starting get a chatter/vibration in my rear end when I turn left or right from a stop or turning at a red light or stop sign. The chatter/vibration is only felt during acceleration. Any ideas??
If you do have limited slip the problem may be as simple as the differential additive has worn out. You can buy a friction modifyer and add it to the fluid but I would recomend changing out the fluid first. Good luck.
Yes I do have limited Slip. I changed the fluid this weekend and added the Fricition Modifier Additive that I bought from my local ford dealer. It is not as noticeable but it is definately still there. It's mostly noticable when making a hard left turn. It makes a grinding noise that you feel in the truck and also roars. It is only when accelerating though. If you are not giving the truck any gas you don't feel it. The grinding is also there when making a hard right hand turn but not as bad. I also feel it when making turning from red lights but not as bad as I do if I make a sharp turn. I've put a easy 150 miles on it since I changed the fluid this weekend. Any suggestions??
have 2wd 2000 xlt 5.4 also, same problem, but just had the pinion seal replaced....is it okay to add modifier if gear oil is full? not very mechanically inclined.....dealer says to bring truck back in so that they can check out the problem and see if it is "under warranty" from the work done...prob is they want the truck all day just to check this chatter deal out....sounds like they might be fishing for something else to charge me for...help if you can....thanks
CFYRE I just added the second bottle of additive to mine last night and my chatter/vibration is gone. You will be fine as long as there is enough room to add the additive without it runing back out. I would pull the plug and stick your finger in the rear diff before trying to add the additive. Be sure to buy two bottles of the additive. They are 4 oz per bottle. $3.86 each from my local Ford Dealer. Good luck!!
