Just curious what others are getting for MPG with the AWD Aerostar. I'm getting about 14 city and 18-19 highway at 70-75 mph which seems a little low to me. Didn't know if I should expect better. The best I ever got was 20 MPG (going 80 mph)on only one tank (must have had a tail wind).
I now own a 92 4.0l aerostar, last time I check the mileage in Dec. 99 it was 20.5 - 21.5 mpg highway, but the year before it was running from 22 to 24.8 mpg on trip to florida running about 70 to 75 mph. I had a 87 3.0l aerostar that would get from 20 to 22 mpg on the same Florida trip. The 4.0 engine gives me better gas mileage. Recently I just changed spark plugs and plug wires so I'm waiting to check the mileage after my next gas fillup.
Well fellas,
15-16 around town, and 18-20 on the highway depending how she is loaded, and how much I want ot break that egg between my foot and the gas. About the same as an explorer is rated. Can't expect much more from something with 4X4.

The "Fuel Computer" display on the digital dash tells me that I average 16.8 mpg. The van has just under 85K miles and the mileage has been the same since new.

1992 F150 Supercab SB 4x4 302 AOD 3.55 31x10.5 All Terrain on Ford 15x8 Ralleys
My '91 4.0 AWD w/156K still gets 19-20mpg with a 60% hwy 40% city mix. Out here we have to use "watered" gas (ethanol blend) in winter which reduces mileage by 12-15%. (How using more gas produces less pollution is beyond me!)
My 93 AWD Aerostar Extended w/ 4.0 at 98,000 miles gets 16 - 17 1/2 mpg around town but have not checked it on the road yet and that is with a recent tune-up and fuel injection system cleaned. Not bad for a vehicle of its size I dont think
Just off a 500 mile trip and checked the milage twice. It worked out to 25 miles per canadian gallon (about 28 american) I was impressed for a 4 litre AWD.
XLT with 4 wheel drive 1990
Averages 17mpg gets about 21mpg on the freeway.
Recently it dropped to 16mpg so it's in the shop getting new spark
plugs. I'm sure that will help.
