Most dealers do put on a coat of some kind of wax before delivery. Real cheap stuff thats very easy to take off and dries in no time(a step up from spray wax). It's not that they care about protecting it, it's just they easiest way to get a fast shine w/ no spots.

If it's a new truck, I would think the clearcoat by itself should be looking good for a long time. My dark shadow grey metallic clearcoal looks great, and I don't think it's going to need anything extra for quite some time but it is garaged.

The clearcoat is what needs the protection!
