We just recently bought a 93 aerostar 3.0 v6 just over 100k miles. Problem is it will start once and drive a mile or so then sputter and die. Wont restart again for 20-30 minutes. Same thing just sitting in the driveway, you start it once and it will start right up, shut it off and try to start again---no go, let it sit another 15 min. or so and it will start again (temporarily). I have changed fuel filter, fuel pump relay. The fuel pump comes on every time even when it wont start( have not been able to check the pressure though). It has good spark. Any Ideas???? Thanks in advance--Tim
You definitely need to check the fuel pressure. This sounds a lot like the symptom I had when my fuel pump was failing on my '89 3.0l.
See

for my previous post on replacing the pump, and

for how to check the fuel pressure.
If you're sure the ignition is still working when the van won't start, try a shot of ether in the air filter, then crank. If it fires up for a second, you've got a fuel delivery problem. Fuel pumps do go bad on these rigs.
Um . . . now that I think about it, can you safely use ether ("Starting Fluid") on a MAF-equipped vehicle? I don't work with anything that new
Anyway, check the fuel pressure. You can buy all the parts to do it for under $10.
