which heads

ok ive got a set of e7te heads from a 5.0 and a set of d80e heads from a 82 351w . im wondering which ones will work better on my 302. i have a comp cams 268h cam an intake from a 84 mustang a holly 650 vac sec. with a 302 bored .40 which makes it a 307. its going into a 71 f100 im looking for some more power but cant find any flow charts on the d80e heads to compare with the e7te heads. i figure that if there both real close ill go with the e7te beause from what ive seen there a more popular head. i blew a head gasket so im pulling the d80e heads off of the 307 today and since im that far i figured i might as well see which ones were better and stick them on. if any one can help me it would be greatly appericated.

f100guy ???

E7TE...I believe the ports on the two heads are very close flow wise...advantage of the E7 is the smaller combustion chamber. later

i would get them worked over a bit before you install either set you decide on. also see if they can get them o ringed so you can use the better head gaskets.

the d80e heads have been millied down to have the 54cc chambers.the motor the e7te heads were on has dished pistons where as my 307 has flat tops.that would mean that the e7te heads were for a lower compression ratio motor correct. and so if i stick them on my 307 then would that not boost my compresion ratio. i am planning on putting headers intake bigger cam and roller rockers and lifters sometime in the future so which would be better a higher compression ratio or a lower compression ratio. i also got to looking around on the te heads and found i had a burnt exaust valve. but everything besides the valves is still new so i figured i could just replace that one valve and that fix the problem.

54cc chambers...think about this... stock e7 has 64 cc, stock e5 69cc, stock D8 69cc. So they have been seriously milled huh? More compression more power and posibly the luxury of running expensive premium fuel. Your gonna have to do some measuring, those 54cc heads may put you too far up there compression ratio wise for a street engine. Do a search for compression ratio formula, your gonna need to know the distance form the piston top to the deck of the block, the head gasket bore size, the head gasket compressed thickness (you can look the gasket up on the manufactureres website or contact them, they can let you know the cc without guessing), the head cc volume and possibly a couple smaller details depending on how accurate the calculator you use. If the e7 are stock, I would use them, your probably only talking a 3% (according to average) increase in hp by going to that high of a compression ratio using the 54cc D8 heads, beside the e7 are a little better flow wise I believe.

Good luck

E's way to go

the E7's are far superior to the D's, but as suggested above, you better check your compression if the E-7's have been milled to death.
Use the D's for your boat anchor

i think ill go with the e7 heads because they have 60 cc chambers and the d80 heads have 54 cc because the motor with the d8o heads has always been hard to turn over because it was all so tight and it wouldnt run on anything under 91 octane. when i built the motor i just threw everything together because my other truck broke the firewall where the slave cylinder was, but this time around im able to take my time and i can do everything right instead of pulling parts off of old mustangs. thanks to everyone for thier help
