I have a Supercrew XLT with the cd player. The factory speakers don't sound very good, so I was wondering how much difference there would be by changing the speakers and leaving the factory reciever. I kind of like the factory reciever. Could you put an amp in there to boost the power and make a difference? Any suggestions are appreciated.
I added some tweeters to my system and it made a huge difference Make sure they have the same ohm rating. I have no clue why but my friend who installed mine said that was important. He used to work at a car audio place. I bought my tweeters on ebay. do a search for "ford tweeters"
You ned to do more than just add two tweeters with the same impedance. You need to use a crossover. If you don't you essentialy could blow the amp in the head unit. Putting a 4 ohm tweeter and connecting it in parrallel to a 4 ohm speaker will essentially allow the head unit to see 2 ohm load. Way too low for the head unit to handle the increased current.
Yeah - I wasn't to interested in the tweeters, more the 6"x8"'s. I just think the seperation in the factory ones is terrible - sounds very muddy - the system in my 98 Lariat was pretty sweet.
I had some infinity reference 6x8's in my Contour and they sounded excellent. I also had Sony amps and a sub, but the clarity (which it sounds like what you're after) was outstanding.
My friend just bought a standard cab STX. He changed out the stock speakers with a set of Alpine's. He is very happy with the results. I'm very fortunate to have the Audiophile system in my new SCAB. Best of luck!
At first< I only changed my speakers. The stereo actually sounded worse at low volumes. I replaced the factory stereo with a Clarion am/fm/cd/mp3 player
Now my stereo sounds awesome. Just replacing the speakers might create a problem instead of correcting one.
I added Alpine components, for the front. Pioneer 4ways to the back. A 600 watt amp with two bazooka tens. Run by an Alpine head. Check out the pics, sounds great!!
