The factory speaker size is 6x8. I installed 240watt poineer 6x8 speakers in the doors. I have poineer truck speakers In cargo area with a 400watt amp. Think I have some pic's in my gallery.
I run Infinity reference series in the doors, a pair of Alpines 10" subs in the barn doors, and a pair of Alpine amps under the second row seats. Won't blow the windows out, but does the job just fine.
A door speaker upgrade is an improvement, but like any other system, running them through an amp will give you the best results.
I replaced my speakers with infinity kappa's. Got them off eBay for 62.00 each, regular over 100. (682.9 reference series)
One 10" kicker sub in custom box in spare tire, kenwood amp tucked into jack compartment and a new kenwood deck to finish off the sound. The speakers sounded better than stock on the stock deck but the sound is finished off well now. I have pictures in my gallery. Just finished this all a few weeks ago.
Use Alpine Type S coaxials and a small amp, replace head unit with a good aftermarket deck with built in cross overs and you will be good. If you need more then just get a powered subwoofer in a box to fill in your lower end bass, or go over board like me.
I plan on doing the barn door thing too. But I went cheap and tried some Audiopipe 6x8 in the rear doors just to check them out. They WILL be snatched out because they sound like crap!!! It was a $25 ebay special, I'm going back to the brands I trust!!

Audiopipe isnt bad. You just have to choose what products you use for each application closely. Their amps have a lot of ***** for the price.
Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to order 3 sets of the Infinity 6829CF's today and run them with the stock radio until I can find the time to bring the truck in to a shop and have them figure out how to replace the head unit with something better (and my iPod) and still be able to run my RSE.
Along with the head unit I'll probably add an amp to power the 6 speakers, but I think in the meantime those Infinity's should be a big improvement over the stock ones.
Will post back about the difference over stockers.
