Column shifter problems
My shifter was not working properly, at first I thought I had worn linkage or something, but with my son inside the cab shifting from "Park" to "Low", I could see the linkage off the steering column near the firewall only moves about 1 or 2 inches up and down, where it needs to move about 8 inches up and down. Is there a way to tighten this up, maybe it is slipping? My chiltons manual was totally useless.

sounds like it is time for a rebuild. the shift collar may be worn out, or the shift arm may have come loose from the shift tube. no matter what you are gonna have to tear it apart and find the problem.

Mine just did the same thing. A little piece on the shifter tube that slides i na notch on the shifter broke. 4 rivits later it shifts like new. Probabvly something simple, you will see when you tear it down. It is a 2 person job, 4 hands make it TONS easier to work on.
