I recently got a 87 aerostar. The van needs a new altenator, a new power steering hose, and a oil sensor replaced. The van was given to me by my father so I know it was taken care of. The problem I am having is getting to the bolt facing the rear on the altenator. I have BIG arms and get get around in those tight areas. If there is a "trick" to doing this please tell me. I prefer to do the work myself if at all possible. One thing I can't figure out is why ford let thier engineers design something like that. I think those engineers should have to do rountine maintenance and simple repairs on the vehicle before they approve it. I guess I am too used to working on pick ups. Well any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have an 88. I changed my altenator and remember it being a pain in the ****. Take off as much as you can. Wait until you have to change the Fuel pressure regulator. Talk about a pain!!!
