Spark Plugs

Spark Plugs
I am planning to change plugs in my 1999 3.0FFV Ranger with 60,000 miles.
The owners manual recommends AGSF12PP plugs, however Ford Dealers says that plug has a new number (AGSF22PP) but is the same plug. My manual states this plug is for the 4.0 engine.
Is Ford stating the facts that the plugs are the same? Any problem installing the AGSF22PP in my 3.0FFV?
Is 60K miles too soon to change plugs?

I would recommend against the AGSF22PP plugs in your FFV 3.0L. Peter is on the right track with the heat range #s, however, the 22's are actually a hotter plug than the 12's, and that's not what you want in there:

If you want to use aftermarket plugs
I own the exact same year and model but have 90k on it. I installed the Autolite DP (double platinum) based on many other posts that said they worked well in the 3.0 FFV. I have to admit they were right. I have noticed a much smoother idle and response. If you were thinking about an aftermarket plug I would highly recomend them . Good Luck

My opinion is that the 60K is way to soon. I think you souuld pick a plug that is easy to get to and pull it to see what it looks like. I betcha that it is good to go. I keep the plugs twice that long before changing them and I always go back with the EXACT plug that the factory put in there. I don't think another company can get it as RIGHT as Ford can.

I tried the AGSF22PP plugs in my 1999 3.0L FFV, and they ran too hot. I found the AGSF12PP plugs, which cured the pinging, and roughness symptoms I had with the AGSF22PPs. Last November, I visited the Motorcraft booth at Sema, and they suggested a new "fine wire" platinum plug, P/N AGSF12FMF6. I have tried these plugs, and they run fine!! The only reason I can think Ford would discontinue the AGSF12PP, and to go to the AGSF22PP is to reduce inventory cost, so they only have to stock the "22", since it's used in the 4.0L also.....just my $0.02....
