Yes, it seems William PC is in the know and he offers some good advice. One thing I want to point out is that judging from the original post, it sounds as though ford5.8 is something of a beginner, so I was trying to give advice accordingly. Of course someone with experience at SQ events, etc., will not be so crazy about how any Bazooka sub performs when compared with other set-ups that are available. It's all relative to what a person has experienced. There are people who think a stock sound system of this day and age sounds wonderful. It's in the perspective. And while there is certainly nothing wrong with recommending some high end gear to a beginner, I say let the user get some experience of his own and grow to appreciate high end gear and upgrade at a reasonable rate. There is also not a thing wrong with a beginner having an amplified 10" Bazooka. Like I said before, there are better, but there are worse. And they can be easily integrated into an average system, and reproduce their part of recorded music to a reasonable degree. But they are what they are. I never intended to imply that they were something above ordinary. But I still believe that ford5.8 would be surprised at how they can perform, especially after this discussion. Unless he just came from the Iasca finals or some such thing.
Very good point LP. A Bazooka tube may do him happy and is a resonable place for a begginer. Maybe he can pick up an amplified HP tube on Fleebay. If he doesnt like it he can sell it. I will whip up some other $300 dollar options.
I do not need a high end system by any means, just something that will sound decent and is reliable..I have a alpine 50x4 deck right now with stock speakers. It sounds like JL is a good brand also..? Something like this looks like it would fit behind my seat. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...717478053&rd=1
I would email the seller and see what series JL sub they are. If they are W0's skip them. Great in their day but way behind whats out there now. Older W3's are not bad but may have seen some abuse. Be carefull buying electronics from individuals (not companies) on Fleebay. I have see many folks get screwed.
dont mean to be a nuciance (sp?)...but what do u guys think of MTX Thunder 6000's? i was just curious. i have a 95 f-150 very similar to what ford 5.8's is...and was thinkin of puttin in a system...or a better one i guess.
(dont mean to "steal" ur post ford5.8....just wondering some info. )
im not a big fan of MTX, i've never owned any, you may be happy with them, i think their high end stuff is really good, and the regular stuff is pretty regular, on the 6000's their performance at high volumes isnt great, its pretty good but not best, their appearance isnt too good either, but who really cares if you're not showing off, but the good side is, it has a dB sensitivity of about 96 which means more power for the wattage applied, ure gonna get a range of about 30-35 Hz to about 125-160 Hz, its going to want a semi decent sized box about 1.25 for sealed enclosures which isnt huge but kinda big, but it depends on what you're wanting from it

A lot of folks in the car audio community really frown upon MTX. They sort of sold out. They make decent stuff but it tends to be over priced for what you get. I have heard some solid setups with MTX gear but they spent far too much for what they got. My favorite local shop just brought in MTX as a budget line and they sell pretty good. If you get a good deal on them they I think you would be happy but If you buy from CC or BB then you paid too much.
i didnt even think of them, i was at BB and they have this little platform hooked up where u can mix and match the amps and subs, and a worker and some kid was sitting next to some sony x-plodes and they were listening to it, and they were bobbing their heads to the music but it sounded like crap and i looked at the price and they were wayy to expensive for the sound they were putting out, ill never shop at either of those 2 places
I have owned a 6inch bazooka , 10 inch bazooka, and an infinity basslink. I like all 3 and the bazookas are built really well. I had mine for 6 years and used it hard with no problems till i blew it out. The important thing is aiming the bazooka the correct way. It is most efficient pointing towards a corner of a vehicle. the infinity sounds nick and goes deep but doesnt have as much punch as the bazooka. either one is nice though.
I dont know how the amplified subs sound but back in the mid 90"s I knew a guy that had a 92 honda civic hatchback that was runin 3 10" bazooka's with a punch 45 bridged on each tube and it hit hard and also had great sound. I recall at a stereo shop spl contest, he had a better spl than another guy with 2-15's and 1-18" in a custom box with over a 1000 watts in the back of somethin cant remember hatch back but it had no back seat and also hit hard .Let me tell ya that guy was not happy gettin shut down by 3 little 10's in bull sh#t plastic tubes. I almost forgot my brother in-law back then had 2 8" behind the seat of his 89 s-10 with alpine amps and it had great bass .The seat would not go back all the way but the bass was strong.
