92 explorer, 4.0 liter, engine pings a A LOT, maf sensor is clean, I did buy a knock sensor replacement at one time but returned it when I could not locate it on the engine, both NAPA and ford garage list it as a part item, ie there must be one somewhere? Where is it (knock sensor) located? Three ford service departments came up with three different locations, now I know three places that it is not. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated

According to the chart Im looking at its on the right side of the engine , its not a detailed enough diagram to give you an exact location . Its likely screwed into the block . Before you condem it as the cause of your problem , check for any stored trouble codes .
