For those who may be interested in using the vertical oil filter adapter in their 2x4 trucks, I just saw the use of a short filter to compensate for the frame interference. The filter being used was a PH16 and seemed to fit fine. Now take this for information, right/wrong or indifferent, the knowledge is now yours to use as you may...
What's the advantage of running a vertical filter? I've been running a Napa 1773 (bigger than the FL-1A) on the horizontal filter mount for quite some time without problems.
i ran a remote filter on my el camino i am thinking of doing the same with my f250, i can also use the kit from summit and go with two filters and a cooler, adds about 4 quarts of oil to your engine, i think that would be a good thing, just a little worried about making the oil pump work harder
Why? If you want to put the orange can of death on your engine that's OK with me. At least do yourself a favor and buy the Extra Guard filters, wich are much better quality.
So you say the shorter FL-300 instead of the FL-1A helped your oil pressure a little? My curiosity is piqued.
No, I meant I had a double-long filter on my 360 and the pressure seemed to be less overall, especially coming to a stop after highway speeds - went back to the regular length filter and the oil pressure came up about 5 lbs.
I think the "shorty" filter would clog up quicker and give you less oil pressure over a normal oil-change interval, at least until it went into bypass

Why? To avoid questions like this one that I have answered thousands of times before.
My brother-in-law wholesales them to marine dealers here on Long Island for the last 20 years or so... never had a return or warranty claim, which he can't say for the other brands he sells (AC, Pennzoil, and some others)...
And yes, I use the XG versions with the silicone anti-drainback in my Ford modulars because at least my V10 calls for the silicone version (FL-820S - notice the "S").
Never had a failure in over 300K total miles of usage on all my vehicles... tore some of them down after years of use and no abnormal bearing wear.
I open them up everytime I change the oil just to check for "pieces"... none of them degraded, and the anti-drainback works everytime. I can't complain.
The vertical filter just makes for a cleaner oil change. These fit with the regular filter just fine in the cars and 4x4's but the crossmember interferes on the 2x4's.

I'd still think that the shorter filter means less filter media and you're better off getting oil down your arm than shortening the oil change cycle. By the way when I remove the oil filter from my highboy with the vertical filter, I still get oil on my arm and the front diff
I find that it's easier to reach in from the top driver side and get it there. I get absolutely NO oil on me when I do it this way. Just put the pan under it and go.
