I seem to recall that every Ford flywheel I have seen was drilled for multiple clutch sizes. My spare flywheel came from an 80 F-100, had a 10" clutch on it, and now is in my 84 with an 11" clutch. I have heard that you can upgrade to a 12" diesel clutch, but I'm not sure.
I think Ford did the multiple bolt patterns to save money, like they did on a lot of things. If they have one flywheel that can work in multiple applications, they can avoid a lot of extra parts to be stocked.

I thought the lives of the clutches on the inline six were higher than 60000 miles, and 90000 miles as the one mentiond... I have a 86 with 300'000 klm, wich is around 170'000 miles... original clutch, and most of the miles were from a three on the tree!(the engines been in three vehicles lol, and still great!) Maby you guys are reving to high to start out? The engines have great low end torque.
