I have a 1989 f150 with an 300-I6 and I the other day the truck died on me twice while I was comming to a stop. I read somewhere in the forums that the speed sensor on the transmission could cause this. Right now my speed sensor is unpluged because my speedometer cable is broken. Could this be the cause of the problem?
I have a VSS input on my '87 computer, as well as the '90 mustang computer I'm currently running. There is a speed sensor on the output shaft of the transmission along with the speedo cable that runs cruise control and sends a signal to the computer. I don't think it would set a check engine light, but it would store a code. I am unfamiliar with the '95's, so I can't say how they are set up or if the computer uses any kind of input for vehicle speed.
It has a speed sensor connected at the place that the speedometer cable is connected. I know it runs the cruise control, but I don't know what else. How hard is it to check the computer codes?
When I go to a parts store and request a speed sensor for my truck (1989 F-150 4.9 4spd) the speed sensor they bring out is different form the one that is in it? the numbers on my old one match to a 1991 F-150.... why is this
There are two different speed sensors on your truck. There is one mounted on the top of the rear axle, and another on the output shaft of the transmission.
