vacuum pump
I need to buy a vaccum pump to work on my older farm equipment and pickups with R12 and newer stuff with 134. I've seen some air powered pumps for about $50 and electric powered for $250+, has anyone used the cheaper pump and are they any good? I don't want to waste $50 and end up having to buy a better pump to do the job. Can you recomend a good pump for occosional use.

The air powered pumps are not too good unless you have a BIG capacity compressor.
I bought a nice used on on eBay for $125. New ones are priced all over the spectrum. Check AC Kit.com

If you have a commercial quality air compressor that will maintain the air pressure the cheaper ones work just fine. I used one of that type for a couple years when I did AC installations on Nissans. It is much quieter and more convenient otherwise to use electric pumps, but as you can see they are quite expensive in comparison. But if you have that monster air compressor you neednt shy from the venturi vacuum pump. Its a lot more economical for the seldom use at home.
