Which power steering pump did you use? I thought as I am running a 390 FE, I'd buy a Ford pump and and get the lines to the volare box made to fit and use CVF racing PS Bracket for the 390 FE and PS pulley they offer but then started thinking if I use a volare PS steering pump which is made for that steering box, I could buy the lines from O'Reilly or someplace but will have to make a PS bracket and find a pulley. Any thoughts on this? Would I be ok just going with the ford pump on the volare box?

I had to put a Saginaw pump on my Volare clip. The Ford pump made woefully inadequate pressure. Improving my parking lot handling 100%

good info! CVF Racing offers a Saginaw unit and the brackets & pulley to match, may be the way to go!

I have a ford pump that has too much pressure. The steering is scary easy at speed, to twitchy. Looking at going to a Saginaw with low pressure or the Heidt's pressure reducing valve.

I'm using a Mustang II r/p. I bought my pump from CVF...a Saginaw. They also recommended a pressure reducing valve for a Mustang II ($35 bucks)... said the Sag unit made too much pressure for the ford rack. Sag does 1000-1100 #s and the Ford rack needs around 800#s.

I'd try to find the spec on pressure on the Volare and word from there. CVF will probably have what you need and I recommend them highly !

I have a stock Ford pump from an 84 Mustang [whole serpentine setup] with my Volare and have no complaints.

I am running the V/A Frontrunner system on my 56 w/Volare IFS. This system came with a GM pump that is commonly used on the LS engine. As you can see in the pic I am using AN fittings and hoses that I bought from Detroit Speed. The lines may look a bit strange...I am also running a hydroboost on the brakes so there is a set of lines running to the master cylinder area as well.

I used a stock Volare pump on my 49 with Chrysler T-bar suspension and 302 Ford engine. Made my own bracket to mount the pump. If you want to send me a PM, I can send you a picture of the mount if you think it will help.

Okie, the '84 Mustang pump would be for a rack, which would be lower pressure which the Chrysler steering box likes.

Charlie, it will be interesting to see how your system will work considering you are running hydro boost. What peaks my interest is it appears you eliminated the "horse collar" in front of the radiator and fabbed up a square tube replacement that moved your radiator forward. I would like to see more of that. You can send the info to me so as to not hijack this thread but then again all of us on this thread have that suspension and the others are probably interested as well.

I am running a stock 4.6l 1991 Lincoln Town Car pump. I used the complete drivetrain from the town car. I had a steering pressure line made at a tractor repair shop.

Well ,as I said, the truck's parking lot manners are vastly improved, However the thing still drives and steers like a P.O.S. Something is wrong that myself and multiple folks have looked for. no luck. I am nearing the end of my rope with it and going MII.

Raerjim,
I was going thru the same problems. I had completely rebuilt my clip, and I could barely drive it. Im running GM pump, and Volare steering gear.
Alignment is critical. 1/16-1/8 toe in. not too much camber and around 5 degrees castor.
What actually cured my twitchy undrivable truck was, I replaced my already brand new reman Volare steering gear with another reman steering gear. This time I used an 89 Diplomat police steering gear and I love it. Truck feels how it should, firm but not too firm. I am very pleased. ordered it up from Rockauto.
hope that helps you.

I never drove a Mopar much but seems they are known for mushy steering.
Power Steering Gear Box
Borgeson makes a replacement gear box 14:1 ratio and much firmer but at something like $650 I might be inclined to spend that a some more and replace my Cordoba system with MII.
Borgeson Universal Company :: Mopar Cars 1962-82
I'm running a chevy pump adjusted to reduce pump pressure down to about 900 psi. see Summit racing part no. 899001
