Question 2.3 A/C Bipass Possible

I have a 92 tempo with a/c. The a/c clutch is frozen in place. With a new one being well over $100 I was wondering if I could just buy a non-ac belt and if it would fit, or if there is a pulley that i could bolt on in the place of the ac compressor. And where I could get that pulley if their was such a thing.

If that vehicle was produced without A/C as well as with A/C, the belt listing book at the parts store should list it.

Otherwise, you'll have to measure for the brlt to by-pass the compressor.

It was avaliable without AC, but there was a routing idler setup in place of the compressor. To properly do this you need to purchase the alternate components. You may be able to find that in salvage but if you have to purchase from the dealer it would likely cost near the 100.00 you stated. At the dealer a new compressor would run about 600.00 so you found a great deal somewhere. The labor will kill you though if you dont have the technical ability to do it yourself. If it were mine and I really didnt care about not having AC (an impossible thought here in the SW) I would just get a junk compressor with a good spinning clutch at the salvage yard and stick it in there to give the belt the proper alignment.
